Music from sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England and Spain, featuring the composers Orlando Gibbons, Peter Phillips, Diego Ortiz, Hernando de Cabezón and others. In this programme HMSC explore the historical idea of musical ‘piracy’ by plundering the rich repertories of music originally written for viols, keyboards and voices, and, like the buccaneers of old, looting Spanish gold in search of new and beautiful music for their instruments.
Requirements: 6 musicians (2 cornetts, 3 sackbutts, organ / harpsichord).
A CD of this programme is available at www.sfzmusic.co.uk and sound clips can be heard on this site on our Media Page
